I would help her to get over the situation by telling her to score well in the upcoming assessments/exams and then we will convince his/her mother by ensuring/ guaranteeing her that your child will definitely score better in other assessments/exams.

I would say my friend to convince his mother by promising her that he would do better in the next exam.Also he must try to say to his mother that she can't judge his future just by seeing his performance in one exam.This is the learning stage for the children and they really commit mistakes but they actually learn from their mistakes.Even if his mother doesn't allow him then he must ask his mother to give few condition which he should follow.
