The number of birds in the nest = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Let  the number of birds at the riverbank =\dfrac{1}{4}x,

the number of birds in the nest =\dfrac{1}{5}x and

The remaining birds = 22

To find, the number of birds in the nest  = ?

∴ The remaining birds =x-(\dfrac{1}{4}x+\dfrac{1}{5}x)

x-(\dfrac{1}{4}x+\dfrac{1}{5}x)=22

\dfrac{20x-(5x+4x)}{20} =22

20x-(5x+4x)=22\times 20=440[/tex]

⇒ 11x = 440

⇒  x=\dfrac{440}{11}=40

∴ The number of birds in the nest = \dfrac{1}{5}\times 40=8

Hence, the number of birds in the nest = 8
