Mrs. Parker lives in a lonely cottage at Dartmoor. Tom and Alec are the ones who visit her. They give her the information that two convicts have escaped from the prison. Joe, who considers himself to be a great detective, starts questioning Mrs. Parker and ends up in a heated argument with Tom and Alec. He had seen Bentley Sports Car and suspects Mrs. Parker but Mrs. Parker sends him away by saying that it belongs to her nephew.
After he leaves, she accepts the truth to Tom and Alec stating that she is keeping the car in good condition for her son, Roger, to escape from Jail because he had been falsely accused of robbery and has been sentenced for 3 years of imprisonment. When the boys offer to help her, she refuses and asks them to leave.
When the boys were about to go, one of the convicts enters, the boys assure him of his safety, but, unfortunately, Joe also comes and says that he had seen a convict enter. Inspite of everyone saying no, he is not convinced. The warden of the jail reaches there in time, hears Joe’s story, goes inside the room, gets the dress and informs Joe that he will take the convict in the car so that he will have the proof.
Joe insists on following them. When Joe is warned of the police checking, he boasts of saying that he knew the password because his uncle is a constable there and lets out the password to them too. After they depart, Mrs. Parker informs the boys that the warden was her son and not the convict. They were able to escape because of Joe’s over-smartness.
