Given : one person purchased some cloths for ₹2250 had the price of cloth been ₹50 per metre higher.

Then he would have been able to purchase the cloth less by 1.5m.

To Find :   the measure of cloth purchased and price per meter

Solution:

Let say Price of cloth  =   P  Rs/m

Cloth purchased  = 2250/P

price of cloth been ₹50 per metre higher.

=> Price of cloth = P + 50  Rs/m

Cloth Purchased =  2250/(P + 50)

2250/(P + 50) = 2250/P   - 1.5

=> 2250P  = 2250(P + 50)  - 1.5P(P + 50)

=> 0 = 2250 * 50 - 1.5P(P + 50)

=> 0 = 2250 * 100 - 3P(P + 50)

=> 0 = 750 * 100 - P(P + 50)

=> P² + 50P  - 75000 = 0

=> P² + 300P - 250P - 75000 = 0

=> P(P + 300) - 250(P + 300) = 0

=> (P - 250)(P + 300) = 0

=> P = 250  as price can not be negative

Price of cloth  =   250  Rs/m

Cloth purchased  = 2250/250  = 9 m
