Kindness is a great virtue that makes you divine and elevated. It reduces other’s pain and fills its possessor with joy and ecstasy. People who are devoid of this virtue not only worsen other’s problems and sufferings, but also attract untold misery for themselves.  

In the poem The Legend of Northland, the old woman did not show kindness to St. Peter who was hungry and faint. Her selfishness infuriated the divine saint and he converted her to a woodpecker.  

If the old woman had shown kindness and given a cake to St. Peter, he surely would have blessed her and multiplied her joys.
