One side of rectangle is 2cm longer than the other side and its diagonal is 10cm. What are the lengths of its sides?

Let One side =X
Other side =X+2
Diagonal =10 cm
Then
(X+2)²+X²=10²
or 2X²+4X-96=0
or X²+2X-48=0
or(X+8)(X-6)=0
Now either ( X+8)=0 i.e. X=-8 cm
or (X-6)=0 i.e. X=6 cm
since Xis positive hence X=6 cm
One side =6 cm
Other side =X+2=6+2=8 cm
