Let no be x
Given
 \frac{1}{6}  \times  \frac{x}{2}  +  \frac{1}{4}  \times  \frac{x}{2}
what student did
 \frac{x}{5}
It means
 \frac{x}{5}  =  \frac{x}{12}  +  \frac{x}{8}  - 4
x/12+x/8-x/5=4

lcm of 5,8,12 =120

10x +15x -20x / 120 =4
x=120×4
x=480

so the answer is

480/2 ×1/6 + 480/2 × 1/4 = 100
