No the student is incorrect if you say that the action and reaction their acts on a single

- if two forces act on a single body which are equal and opposite to each other then they would cancel each other
- as a result of this their the resultant force will be equal to zero. This is not true in case of the third law of Newton. This is because the action and reaction takes place on the opposite direction and on two different bodies as a result of this the relative force changes
