Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the time taken by bigger pipe in hours.

GIVEN:-

Smaller pipe = x + 5 hours.

1 / x + 1 / x+5 = 1 / 6\\

x+5 + x / x * x+5 = 1 / 6

6(2x + 5) = x² + 5x

12x +30 = x² + 5x

x² + 5x-12x-30 = 0

x² - 7x -30 = 0

Splitting the middle term,

x² - 10x + 3x -30 = 0

x(x-10)  +3 (x-10)

x+3 = 0                        x-10 = 0

x = -3                           x=10

Time can't be in negative,

∴Time taken by bigger pipe is 10 hours

∴Time taken by small pipe = x + 5 = 10 + 5 = 15 hours//
