I'd spend less time listening to disco music waiting for potaotes to grow and more time doing some science. He could have brought back SD cards or even a hard drive of photos, measurements etc. For that matter, I'd have my own playlist on my own laptop.

I don't believe a power cord would be strong enough to tip the rover back upright. I'd try the carbon-fiber reinforced Hab fabric.

Part of the reason I like the book is that a lot of the stuff he does is exactly the kind of stuff I've done myself, by myself. Not on Mars, obviously, but I've pulled a car uphill with a cable, fried a radio and fixed it, patched SCUBA gear with duct tape, and self-rescued myself from numerous engine and equipment failures on my sailboat. But I'm not that good - I probably wouldn't have figured out how to grow the potatoes, or would have died in the airlock blowout.
