We get the quantity as 84.

Given,

One-third of a certain quantity exceeds one-seventh of that quantity by 16

To Find,

The quantity

Solution,

Let the quantity be 'x'

Now, according to the question,

\frac{x}{3} = \frac{x}{7} + 16

\frac{x}{3} - \frac{x}{7} = 16

Taking LCM, we get

\frac{7x}{21} - \frac{3x}{21} = 16

\frac{7x-3x}{21} = 16

\frac{4x}{21} = 16

Cross-multiplying we get,

4x = 16 * 21

4x = 336

x = \frac{336}{4}

x = 84

Hence, we get the quantity as 84.
