One train x departed from the station a at 4 pm and reached the b station at 5 pm. Another train y departed from station b at 4 pm and reached the station a at 5:30 pm .At what time both the trains will pass each other ?

Let the distance between a and b be z km.
so, speed of train X = z/1 kmph
speed of y = z/(1.5) kmph as time intervel between 4 and 5:30 is 1.5 hours
Let the trains meet at time t after departure.
At time t, t(z) + t(z/1.5) = z
t = 1/(1 + 1/1.5) = 1/ (1 + 2/3)
= 3/5 hours = 36 mins.
so the trains meet 36 mins after departure i.e 4:36 pm
