hii

here is ur answer

let us assume root 2 is rational

root 2 =a/b(b not = 0 , a and b are co prime)

square on both sides

(√2)^2 = (a/b)^2

2=a^2/b^2

b^2=a^2/2------------1

2 divides a^2 then 2 divides a also

a=2c

subsu 1 with b^2=a^2/2

b^2=(2c)^2/2

b^2=4c^2/2

b^2=2c^2

b^2/2=c^2

2 divides b^2 then 2 divides b also

2 is a factor of b^2 also

therefore a and b have st least 2 as a common factor

but this contradicts that facts that a and b are co prime

this contradicts has arisen because of our incorrect assumption that √2 is rational

so, we conclude that √2 is irrrational

hope it will help you
