EQUATION:-

(x-1)²=8(x-1)

(x-1)(x-1) =8(x-1)

Dividing both sides by (x-1) we get:-

(x-1) =8

x=8+1

x=9

Present age of son=x=9years

Present age of father =8(x-1) +1 =8x-8+1

=8x-7

=(8×9) -7

=72-7=65 years

Present age of son=9 years
