Find :-

• Age of Somu

Explanation

Let,

• Present age of Ramu = x years
• Present age of Somu = y years

Case 1.

==> (x-1):(y-1) = 6:7

==> (x-1)/(y-1) = 6/7

==> 7×(x-1) = 6×(y-1)

==> 7x - 6y = -6 + 7

==> 7x - 6y = 1 ___________(1)

Case 2.

==> (x+4):(y:4) = 7:8

==> (x+4)/(y+4) = 7/8

==> 8×(x+4) = 7×(y+4)

==> 8x - 7y = 28 - 32

==> 8x - 7y = -4 __________(2)

Multiply by 8 in equ(1) & 7 in equ(2)

• 56x - 48y = 8_______(3)
• 56x - 49y = -28______(4)

Subtract equ(3) & (4)

==> -48y + 49y = 8 + 28

==> y = 36

Keep Value in equ(3)

==> 56x - 48×36 = 8

==> 56x = 8 + 1728

==> 56x = 1736

==>x = 1736/56

==> x = 31

Hence

• Present age of Ramu = 31 years
• Present age of Somu = 36 years
