Particles in a: gas are well separated with no regular arrangement. liquid are close together with no regular arrangement solid are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern.

In solid matter, the particles are densely packed in a set form. In liquid matter, that particles float about in a somewhat set form that conforms with the container that holds it. In gaseous matter, the particles float about in an unset form that expands to fill the area or contain that it is inside of.
