This research proposal will focus on online shopping, but with a cultural perspective. This is due to a personal curiosity to understand how culturally different consumers interact with the market place and, in particular, online shopping. It is interesting how diverse consumer behaviour is, humans on the surface all look alike but at the same time each individual has a unique and different identity which is essentially form by his family, the culture he belongs to and the society at large. Arnould et. al (2004; 74) have describe culture as a “blueprint which guides the actions and interpretations of consumers’ in a manner acceptable to other members of the culture”. Indeed this must be why consumption behaviour differs for every culture.

As a new shopping channel the internet is surprisingly becoming a normal shopping channel for consumers as many are adopting it as a way of life. For example Monsuwe et.al (2004) reported that 59 million Europeans shop on the internet regularly. This research seek to understand what cultural “blueprints” apply to online shopping considering it is a new medium of shopping by taking a holistic approach to investigating this matter.

This research proposal is divided into section: the first section is going to review literature on online shopping and culture, followed by the research question and objectives. The next section is the methodology which has detailed analysis of the sample collection, procedure, philosophy and limitations. The final part is project management which is expressed using Gantt chart.
