A8) (i) The horizontal and vertical lines drawn to determine the position of any point in the Cartesian plane are called coordinate axes.

(ii) The coordinates of the point where the coordinate axes intersect (origin) are (0,0).

A9) The distance of the point from x-axis or ordinate or y-coordinate = 4 units

The distance of a point from y-axis or abscissa or x-coordinate = 5 units

Thus, the coordinates of the point

= (x-coordinate, y-coordinate) = (5,4)

For its plotting on the cartesian plane, pls refer to the attachment.

A10) 1) Since (x-3,7) = (5,7),

x-coordinate on LHS = x-coordinate on RHS

=>x-3=5

=>x=5+3=8

Thus, value of x=8

2) Since (2,2y-3) = (2,7),

y-coordinate on LHS = y-coordinate on RHS

=>2y-3=7

=>2y=7+3=10

=>y=10/2=5

Thus, value of y=5
