So, since OM is perpendicular to AB, AM=BM (perpendicular from centre to the chord divides it into two). OA is the radius. And AM is 4cm.

Now, in triangle OAM, angle OMA is 90 degree.

Thus by Pythagoras theorem,

OA^2=OM^2+AM^2

=5^2=OM^2+4^2

=25=OM^2+16

=OM^2=9

=OM=3

3cm is the length of OM.
