Only gases burn with a flame . But when you burn wood ,it initially burns with a flame. Later, it only glows without a flame what do you think the reason for this

A substance produces flame only when gaseous substances burn which are present in gases.I'm case of wood there are some volatile substances and when they burn it produces flame but after all these volatile substances burn away it only begins to glow hot red
