  1. 15% alcohol solution means that there is 15 mL of alcohol present in the 100 mL of alcohol solution. In every 100 mL of alcohol solution there is 15% of alcohol present in it: Alcohol present in 100 mL alcohol solution = 15 mL. Water present in in 100 mL alcohol solution = 100 - 15 = 85 mL.
  2. First, we must convert the mass of NaCl in grams into moles. We do this by dividing by the molecular weight of NaCl (58.4 g/mole). Then, we divide the number of moles by the total solution volume to get concentration. The NaCl solution is a 0.1 M solution

  7. Solution Solute Examplesliquid gas seltzer water (CO2 gas in water)liquid liquid alcoholic beverage (ethanol in water), gasolineliquid solid tea, salt watersolid gas H2 in Pd (used for H2 storage)
  8. (a) The solute Is the component that gets dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. It Is present In a smaller amount when compared to the solvent. (b) The solvent is the component that dissolves a solute to form a solution. The solvent Is present In larger amount when compared to the solute.

Question 1 :-

What would it mean by saying a 15% of alcohol solution?

Answer :-

15% alcohol solution means that there is 15 mL of alcohol present in the 100 mL of alcohol solution. In every 100 mL of alcohol solution there is 15% of alcohol present in it: Alcohol present in 100 mL alcohol solution = 15 mL. Water present in in 100 mL alcohol solution = 100 - 15 = 85 mL.

Question 2 :-

Calculate the concentration of a solution containing 2.5g of salt dissolved in 50g of water.

Answer :-

 \small\rm:\longmapsto{Concentration = \frac{Mass \: of \: solute}{Mass \: of \: solute + Mass \: of \: solvent} × 100 } \\

Given, Mass of salt is 2.5gm and mass of water is 50gm.

We have,

  • Mass of solute = 2.5
  • Mass of solute + mass of solvent = 50 + 2.5 = 52.5

Hence, Concentration is

\sf:\longmapsto{ \frac{2.5}{52.5} \times 100 = \boxed{ \sf{4.7\%}}} \\

  • Concentration = 4.7%

Question 4 :-

Define (a) Solute (b) Solvent.

Answer :-

Solute :-

In chemistry, a solution is a special type of homogeneous mixture composed of two or more substances. In such a mixture, a solute is a substance dissolved in another substance, known as a solvent.

Solvent :-

A solvent is a substance that dissolves a solute, resulting in a solution. A solvent is usually a liquid but can also be a solid, a gas, or a supercritical fluid.
