As you might have seen in your daily life that tea at the bottom is hotter than at the surface.....this is because of the phenomenon called Convection current......which occurs in case of fluids...... warm fluid from lower layer comes up as it's density is lesser.....and colder liquid sinks...... this is the explanation is this case...... since gases are better fluids than liquid.....so effect of cooling via convection current is faster in case of gases......so upper layer of liquid cools very fast before sinking
So top of the cup is coolest
bottom of the cup is hottest
