In the story 'The Letter' written by Dhumketu, has undercurance of irony, the dominant is the one in the life of the postmaster. He ridicules Ali, humiliates him, insults him for his desperate wait of his only daughter's letter.

The postmaster realises the pain of Ali when his own daughter was sick. He was full of remorse get independence for his ill treatment to Ali.
