There is a slight difference between speed and velocity though in every cases, it is not considered vital.
SPEED = DISTANCE / TIME
VELOCITY = DISPLACEMENT / TIME
Acceleration occurs with respect to the shortest distance (displacement) and not distance.
Hence, acceleration = change in velocity with time ✔️✔️
