The Indian Constitution is one of the best and the most successful examples of the constitutions existing in the world at present. In many countries, the constitution exists as a mere piece of paper and is hardly followed, while in other cases the constitution has been rewritten for it failed to fulfill the aspirations of the citizens.

Following are the reasons as to why we should accept the Constitution drafted by the Constituent Assembly more than fifty years ago:

• The Constitution isn't an inflexible document, on the contrary, it is a living document. This means that it can be edited or amended as per the nation's present needs or requirements.
• The members of the Constituent Assembly were elected from different geographical areas. This has ensured the incorporation of universal geographical perspectives from different regions of the country.
• Even though the Constituent Assembly was dominated by the Indian National Congress, the party was in itself a divided social group comprising of multiple castes and religions. This ensured the inclusion of the perspectives of all social groups within the country at that time.
• The most important point to be noted is that the Constituent Assembly worked in a highly systematic and analytical manner while drafting the Constitution. First some basic principles were agreed upon and then the drafting of  the Constitution began. Each point tabled in the Constituent Assembly was debated upon and recorded or preserved. These debates were named the "Constituent Assembly Debates" which run into 12 bulky volumes when printed. Following these debates, countless amendments were made into the Constitution. This ensured that few inappropriate laws were incorporated into the Constitution.
• Even though questions have been raised against some of the constitutional provisions, its legitimacy has never been threatened and it has been accepted universally by the country. This is a unique achievement for any of the existing constitutions in this world.
