Farmer: How soon can you file the case?

Lawyer: As soon as I have sufficient information to file the case.

Farmer: I will give you whatever information you need. What information do you require?

Lawyer: First I need to know what the matter is and why a case needs to be filed.

Farmer: I will tell you. This particular piece of land belongs to our family. Since my grandfather and even my father were not educated, they employed Kishori Lal to handle the paperwork. Two weeks ago, when I asked Kishori Lal for the ownership papers, he denied that he had them. In fact he even said that the land was not ours!

Lawyer: So you want a case registered against Kishori Lal?

Farmer: Yes. I suspect that he has forged the papers and has transferred the land in his name.

Lawyer: But you do not know for sure?

Farmer: I strongly suspect it. He is a shrewd man and can easily do it.

Lawyer: See, we can file a case only if he has indeed forged the papers. If he hasn’t done anything of that sort, we cannot charge him on the basis of your suspicion.

Farmer: What do you mean? I cannot let him keep my papers and my land.

Lawyer: No, that is not what I meant. We will first send him a notice asking him to return the papers and then take up the matter from there.

Farmer: I do not understand legal things too well, but what you are saying makes sense. Please go ahead and draft the notice. I would want to resolve the matter at the earliest.
