Open area of a house is in the shape of trapezium with parallel sides in the ration 3:5 . Its area is 50m^2 ( 50 meters square ) and the perpendicular distance between the parallel side is 5m. Find the length of 2 parallel sides of that open area

Answer:

Area of the trapezium=50 cm^2

perpendicular=5m

ratio of sides=3:5

let the sides be 3x and 5x

Now area of the trapezium=

1/2 *(sum of parallel sides)*perpendicular

1/2*(3x+5x)*5=50

1/2*8x*5=50

8x=50/5*2/1

8x=20

x=2.5

sides=3*2.5=7.5

5*2.5=12.5
