Open circuit voltage (OVC) is defined as the difference of electrical potential (Voc) between two terminals of any device when it gets disconnected from the circuit. 

This value can be used to determine the capability of a solar cell as: 

OCV of the solar cells and batteries are measured in specific conditions such as temperature, illumination and state of charge 

 The value can be critical in evaluating what the output performance of the solar cell would be.
