Opening and closing of stomata are regulated by-turgidity

"(b) Turgidity
""Each stoma"" is ""surrounded by"" a ""pair of guard cells"". Depending on the stimulus, the guard cells take in solutes which leads to increased water influx into the cells. This increases the ""turgor pressure"" of the cells and as a result, the guard cells inflate and open the stoma.
However, in the presence of appropriate stimulus, the ""guard cells lose water"" and solutes to the surrounding and lose turgor pressure. As a result, they ""deflate"" and ""close"" the ""stoma"".
