Shylock was a moneylender. He lent money to Antonio. He also made Antonio sign a bond that if he did not repay him the money back, he'll have to give Shylock a pound of his flesh. Later in the story, Shylock refused to take the money back even when Bassanio, Antonio's best friend, offered him double the amount. Shylock seeked revenge as Antonio had been rude to the moneylenders in the past. So, he decided to take a pound of Antonio's flesh, right from his chest to his heart. In that way Antonio could have died. Therefore, in my opinion Shylock is the villain in the story.
