Opposition plays an important role in democracy. Democracy is totalitarian in essence without a solid, active opposition, which goes beyond its delimited expertise, and has no political value. Nonetheless a robust and viable opposition is key to the effective operation of parliamentary democracy, and the ruling party has a duty to value opposition to the growth, stability, and progress of democracy.

In democratic functioning and governance, "strong, constructive and viable" opposition as well as reformist  can play an important role. Without a "strong, united and constructive" opposition one can not think of successful democracy.

Explanation:

  • The opposition's key role is to criticise and keep the government publicly accountable. It is also the opposition's responsibility to protect the people's best interests. They must ensure that there are no acts that the government can adversely impact the country's population.
  • The role of the opposition is primarily to track the excesses and not to be totally anti-governmental in the legislative context (that is to say not to attack the government's good work). The actions of the ruling party which support the people are required in such a case to be recognised by the opposition and not to be excessively critical of them. This leads to democracy and public interest fulfilment

In legislature, the Opposition has a key role, which is:

(1) "Constructive criticism" of the govt.'s "policies & programs" (which are against the "common people’s welfare") & make the govt. work in line the "public good"

(2) Putting "restriction of arbitrariness" of ruling party.

(3) "Safeguarding" "right & liberty" of people.

(4) "Preparedness" in forming the govt.

(5) "Expression" of "public opinion".
