In Cement compouding, the Lime saturation factor (LSF) is expressed as a ratio of Calcium oxide(CaO) or burnt lime to the three other important oxides of Aluminium, Silica and Ferrous.

LSF is given as CaO/(2.8SiO2 + 1.2Al2O3 + 0.65Fe2O3), applied to the clinter.

Optimum value of Lime saturated factor is between 0.92 to 098. It can also be expressed as percentage i.e. 92% to 98%.

If the lime saturation factor value is greater than 1, i.e. 100% , then it means that excess lime will remain free and has nothing to combine with.
