Report : Seminar on Story selection in the Curriculum of Primary school  students

In the just concluded one day seminar on Story selection in the curriculum of primary school  students , held at the Srijani Town Hall, on 25th April, two hundred primary teachers from the various schools of the Country attended.

In the first half of the seminar the current stories in the curriculum were discussed and the probable replacements were sought. Suggestions were taken from all the teachers present to include stories that would highlight the changing gender roles of girls who are taught to be financially and

otherwise independent.

The teachers had all brought power point presentations . Our 'Think Tank' experts went through all the presentations which comprised individual proposals and short write ups on the stories selected.

These included stories from World literature and also the Vernacular literature of India .

After viewing all presentations  the best presentations were shortlisted.

In the second half the most effective and thought provoking stories were selected. The selection was based on voting. All teachers were asked to assign a percentage of marks to all the stories that were shortlisted.

The first hundred and fifty stories were then finalised. According to their content they were then categorised into relevant classes. For each class about twenty five stories were selected.      

The revised syllabus was more or less conceptualised. I have enclosed the changed syllabus and the previous syllabus for your consideration along with the summaries of each selected story.
