Question :

Father's age is three times his son's age. Ten years ago, he was five times his son's age. Find their present age ?

Solution :

Let the son's age be x

Father age = 3x

Ten years ago, he was 5 times the age of his son.

Therefore,

3x - 10 = 5 ( x - 10 )

3x - 10 = 5x - 50

2x = 40

x = 20

Son's age is 20 years

Father age 3x = 3 × 20 = 60 years

Answer :

Son's age is 20 years

Father age is 60 years
