Guwahati 16th February: Guwahati just witnessed the celebration of the Silpi Divas by the District Administration at the District Library Auditorium. It was a week long programme held from 08th February to 15th February.
About hundred Performing Artists participated in the programme. They had come from all the districts of Assam .
'The Assam Tribune' was the first Newspaper Agency to cover the event. It was also a sponsorer of the event.
The District Magistrate, stalwarts of Music and Dance and doyens of Performing Arts from all over India had been invited to grace the occasion.
The greatest treat came when some of these invited guests performed for the audience on request.
Ustad Zakir Hussain played the tabla for Pandit Birju Maharaj who performed a piece of Kathak. Bidushi Kaushaki Chakraborty sang a classical song in Assamese .
Various kinds of folk dances were performed by the artists. Musicians of Assam played the various Musical instruments played in Assam.
All in all it was a gala event. When the celebrations came to an end everyone wanted a promise from the District Administration to organise such events more frequently. The Administration has really done a wonderful job.
