ORAL QUESTIONS
1. All conductors of electricity are magnetic substances. Do you agree? Justify your answer with examples.
2. Do all parts of a magnet have equal magnetic strength? Justify your answer with reference to a bar
magnet and a horseshoe magnet.
3. A freely suspended magnet comes to rest in the north-south direction. Why is that so?
4. If you break a magnet into 10 pieces, how many north and how many south poles would there be in all?
5. One end of an iron bar is attracted and the other end is repelled by the north pole of a bar
magnet. Can you definitely say that the iron bar is a magnet? If both ends are attracted by the
north pole, what would be vour conclusion?
Answers
Answer:
1. yes
coz magnetism is a property of flowing current.
a magnetic effect is always produced whenever current flows.
2.No,
the poles of a bar magnet has more strength than the center of magnet.
3. thus happens because magnet allign itself with respect to earth's magnetic field. magnets north will allign with earth's geographic north. Earth also possess it's own magnetism.
4. each piece will now act as a new magnet. So, 10 norths and 10 souths in total..
5.yes. coz, repulsion only happens in case of magnet. a magnet never repels an iron bar. so, it's an magnet. when it is repelling the iron bar, ut is actually repelling the north pole of magnet in form of iron bar.
