The role of urease enzyme in the detection of Urea is as follows -

• We have to do a laboratory experiment for determining the role of urease in the detection of urea.

• Materials required :

Urine sample, Urease powder, Test tube, dropper , Phenol red indicator solution , 2% Na2CO3 solution, 1% Acetic acid solution.

• Procedure :

- Take 5ml of urine sample in a test tube.

- Then add few drops of fenol red solution in the previous test tube which contains the urine sample.

- Then add few drops of 2% Na2CO3 solution in the test tube which makes the colour of the solution pink or red.

- Then add few drops of 1% acetic acid solution in the test tube which will make the solution a colourless solution.

- Then add small amount of urease powder in that test tube and the colour will become again pink or pinkish red.

• Conclusion :

The again appearance of pink or pinkish red colour indicates that the urine sample has some amount of urea.
