The acetic acid is dissociated to produce acetate ion along with proton and thus the dissociation of acetic acid can be shown as:

CH_3COOH \rightarrow  CH_3COO^{-} + H^{+}

The dissociation constant can be shown as:

K = c \alpha ^{2}

\alpha is degree of dissociation

c = 10^{-5}

c= 0.1 mol /L

10^{-5} = (0.1) \alpha ^{2}


10^{-2} = \alpha


Thus, the degree of dissociation is 10^{-2}
