The old man answered, “Cheese butter masala with butter roti and coke.”
“Alright, sir. Let me tally once, it’s cheese butter masala with butter roti and coke. Correct?” Manager confirmed.
For a moment, the old man hesitated and said, “Nah! Please cancel that. Make plain palak, a plain roti (no butter please).”
“No problem, sir. So, it’s plain palak sabjee with plain roti. Correct?” Manager confirmed again.
This time the old man positively acknowledged by saying, “Please add buttermilk. She loves it.”
“Sure, sir. It’ll be on your table in a few minutes.” manager acknowledged with a smile.
In a few minutes, the old man got a call from his daughter Meera. After a little chit-chat with her dad, she asked, “So, Where are you now, dad? Did you have your dinner?”
The old man answered, “Well! At your favorite restaurant for dinner.”
For a moment many old memories refreshed in Meera’s mind that how she and her father used to eat delicious Punjabi food with lots of talks. Although she never had a mother, her father always gave her the best. But, after marriage, she was far away from her dad. So, she felt teary. Somehow she controlled herself and said these words with a loud voice, “Dad! Don’t you dare to eat that cheese butter masala and butter roti with coke. You’re a heart patient and these things increase Cholesterol and everything.”
From the other end, her father smiled and answered, “Come on! Let me eat once.”
Scolding to him, Meera strictly added, “Not at all, dad. You promised me, you won’t. Remember?”
The old man smiled more and just answered, “Alright!”
After that, she cut the call. Later that night, Meera’s husband Raj received a text message saying, “I’m so jealous of you man. You stole my daughter. I hate you.”
Raj smiled reading those cute words from his father-in-law. He had this kind of friendly talk relationship with his father in law. Meera observed smile on Raj’s face. So, she quickly asked, “What happened? Why’re you smiling?”
“Just reading a text from your dad,” Raj answered.
“What’s it saying?” Meera inquired.
Raj smiled further and answered, “He loves you.”
Those words delivered a curve of happiness on Meera’s lips. After all, Raj played the game of words very beautifully for a daughter and his wife.
