What can you say about the final velocity of an object if its acceleration is negative? please answer me​

so.... as the body is retarded(-ve acceleration=> opposite to the motion of the body) ... the body's velocity reduces till it stops and the velocity starts increasing again in the direction of the initial accelearation.... so final velocity can never be zero... but keeps on increasing..
