Osmosis requires energy where as diffusion is movement of particles until they are balanced passively .this process requires energy

Osmosis is nothing but a special case of diffusion where the particles move from a region of higher to lower concentration but only through a semi permeable membrane.
Whereas we don't need and SPM for diffusion.

Example of osmosis.... Water entering root from soil where the root membrane is SPM.
