But during osmosis, the solvent (water) molecules move from the place of their higher concentration to the place of their lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane. Thus, osmosis is termed as a special kind of diffusion

hg44192: Osmosis is a special kind of diffusion because basically water can diffuse through the membrane, but nothing else in the water that is- salt, sugar and other solute can diffuse. In osmosis movement of water molecules only occur and also a semi- permeable membrane is involved in osmosis. Osmosis occurs from high concentration to the low concentration.

There is a difference between diffusion and osmosis that is
diffusion = that allow entry of selected substance
osmosis= that allow entry of only water
