Osmosis can be referred as diffusion in some ways since osmosis refers to the moment of water molecules through the selectively permeable membrane wherelse diffusion refers to exchange of gases between the cell wall and the external environment. so in both the processes the plasma membrane permits the entry and exit of some materials (gas or liquid) in and out of the cell.
