Water is absorbed by the root hair cell by the preocess called, Osmosis. Osmosis is the phenomenon where solute moves from higher concentration to lower concentration against a semi-permeable membrane.
Water passes from a region of high water concentration (wet soil) through a semi-permeable membrane (the cell membrane) to a region of lower water concentration (the cytoplasm).
Root hairs are made up of epidermal cells, which are present on the surface of the root, they also increase the surface area for absorption. They absorb minerals by active transport and water by osmosis. These substances then move to the xylem.
hope it helps
