 Osmotic pressure develops due to entry of water into the cell.

 It develops only in a confined system.

 Numerical value is positive.

Osmotic Potential

 It is lowering of free energy of water in a system due to presence of solute particles.

 Osmotic potential is present whether solution occurs in confined system or an open system.

 Numerical value is negative.
