Answer:

THIS IS THE QUESTION TAKEN FROM SAMPLE PAPER RELEASED BY CBSE 2020.

OSTENTATION AND VANITY OFTEN LAND PEOPLE IN TROUBLE . MATILDA WAS NOT SELF CONTENT IN WHAT SHE HAD . SHE ALWAYS WANTED TO HAVE A LUXURIOUS LIFE . SHE COULD HAVE GONE TO THE PARTY IN HER NORMAL PARTYWEAR BUT SHE WANTED TO LOOK LIKE A CELEB . SHE BORROWED THE JEWELLERY FROM HER FRIEND . SHE DIDN'T WAIT TO GET A CAB ORDERED AS SHE DIDN'T WANT OTHERS TO NOTICE HER WEARING POOR DRESSES . DUE TO HER SHOW OFF NATURE , SHE LOST THE JEWELLERY .

BEST OF LUCK FOR YOUR BOARD EXAMINATIONS.

Answer:In the chapter "The necklace" Matilda is a pretty lady who dreams herself to be born for all the luxuries. However she is born in a poor family and is married to a clerk. One evening when her husband brought her an invitation to the party , she was sad instead of being happy. The reason was that she didn't have a proper dress . So her husband brought her a dress . She then cried for not having any jewels. She borrowed an beautiful necklace from Mrs Forestier. But she lost it and didnt tell her friend about this . She replaced it with a real diamond necklace and after suffering for 10 yrs she finally told her friend about it. However she was shocked to know that it was fake. Obstination and vanity landed her in trouble. If she had presented herself in the way she is in the party and confessed about the loss of the necklace to her friend , she would have been in a better place.
