Other creatures loathed his voice, but, alas, they had no choice, and the crass cacophony blared out from the sumac tree at whose foot the frog each night minstrelled on till morning light. (1) whose voice has been referred to here in the first line? (2) why did the other creatures hate his voice? (3) what does the word 'loathed' means?

The frogs voice is being referred in the 1st line
2)because the frog sang
in such a harsh voice that no-one had ever listened, but the frog didn't care about them, he just sang as he liked

a) The frog’s voice is referred in the first line.

The voice is mentioned as ‘loathed’, so it will not belong to Nightingale. So, we can conclude that the voice mentioned in the first line belongs to the frog.

b) As the frog’s voice is neither melodious nor sweet to listen, other creatures dislike it.

c) The word ‘loathed’ means ‘hated’ or ‘disliked’. Here, the frog’s voice is disgusting to hear. So, other creatures hate it and it is mentioned as ‘loathed’ by the poet.
