Our atmosphere is a mixture of gases. Each gas consists of atom(s) and holds a particular atomic number in the periodic table. The atoms are held to each other by chemical bonds between them. Atom of one such element contains five electrons in its valence shell. This element is the major component of air. It exists as a diatomic molecule in the atmosphere.
