Dear readers,

In support of this question, centered on understanding the concept of corruption, I have added the opening 3 pages of a draft paper devoted to the topic. Please have a look. I believe this is a topic much studied and of interest to people and researchers around the world.

This draft builds on my research on Gilded Age corruption in the U.S. during the late 19th century. Of special interest is the distinction between legal and moral concepts. As becomes evident, not all corruption is illegal. I am also especially interested in the connection between corruption and larger-scale economic and political consolidation.

What can readers tell us about their own experience of corruption?

Comments, corrections and additions invited.
