Digestion is important for breaking down food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy ATP ( adenosine triphosphate ), growth, and cell repair. Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body. The body breaks down nutrients from food and drink into carbohydrates, protein, fats, and vitamins...

Hope this helps you!!!

Our diet includes all necessary nutrients still we need to digest it because ,

  • Most of the nutrient materials commonly occur in the form of complex biomolecules or particulate aggregates of these molecules.
  • Nutrient in theses forms cannot be taken by body cells.
  • Hence these biomolecules must be broken down into molecules small enough to cross the plasma membrane of the cells.
